The Regional Winners of the
2008 Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest
at PBS39 have been chosen!
WFWA-DT PBS39, Fort Wayne, has announced the
regional winners of the 2008 Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest.
The young authors and artists eligible for this annual contest competed by grade level -- Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade and Third Grade – at their local libraries or branch libraries. The entries were then judged at each location, and the top three in each category at each library or school were sent along to WFWA for judging at the regional level.
The first place winners in each category have now been sent on to the National Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest where they were judged along with entries from across America.
On Saturday, April 12, the winners and their families were treated to a special reception and awards presentation at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. The winning entries were part of a special exhibit highlighting the stories and art these young writers and illustrators have made. This exhibit was posted through the June 20, 2008.
PBS39 partnered with area libraries and schools from across northeast Indiana as well as libraries and schools in Ohio to conduct this year’s contest. We also received special support from the Fort Wayne Museum of Art on behalf of this education outreach initiative.
The national contest winners will be announced in June. Locally, the prize-winning entries are as follows, listed by category, place, writer/illustrator, story title (in italics) and sponsoring library or school. Those who did not participate through their local library or school are listed as "Self-entry."
